Our privacy promise

Privacy policy

Effective October 24, 2026

The short version: reading this blog doesn't need an account, and we don't use ads or track you. We count visits with a privacy-friendly tool that doesn't identify you. If you subscribe by email, we keep your address only to send you new posts, until you unsubscribe. We never sell it.

Who we are

This blog, blog.happyheartsoftware.com, is run by Happy Heart Software LLC, doing business as Happy Heart Software, based in Ohio, USA ("Happy Heart Software", "we", "us"). This policy covers the blog only. Our website and each of our apps have their own; see our website's privacy policy.

What we collect

Email subscriptions. If you subscribe, we receive your email address and send it a link to confirm. We don't keep your address unless you confirm. Once you do, we use it only to email you when there's a new post. Every email has a link to unsubscribe, or email contact@happyheartsoftware.com to be removed.

Visit counts. We count visits to the blog without identifying you. See "Analytics" below for exactly what's recorded.

Your theme choice. If you pick a light or dark theme, your browser keeps that choice in a cookie named theme. It holds only the theme, and your browser sends it with each page request only so the page comes back in that theme. The blog sets no other cookies for readers.

Basic technical information. Like any website, the services that deliver this blog automatically handle technical details such as your IP address and browser type so the page can reach you and stay secure. We also use your IP address briefly to limit how many times the subscribe form can be used in a minute, so nobody can use it to flood other people's inboxes.

Analytics

This blog uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits. It's run by Cloudflare, which also hosts the blog, not by an advertising company. It doesn't use cookies or store anything on your device, doesn't give you an identifier, and doesn't follow you to other websites, so there's nothing that could link your separate visits back to you. It records, in total across all visitors: which pages were viewed, the referrer (the link that brought you here, if any), general browser, operating system and device type, approximate country (worked out from your IP address, which isn't used to identify you), and how quickly pages loaded.

Services we rely on

  • Cloudflare hosts the blog, its posts and images, and provides our visit counts (Cloudflare Web Analytics). It may keep server logs, including IP addresses, for security.
  • Resend sends our emails and keeps the list of subscribers' addresses, along with whether each one is still subscribed and records of the emails it delivered.
  • Google Workspace hosts our email, where replies to our emails are stored.

We also share links to new posts on our LinkedIn and Facebook pages. That doesn't involve any information about you. If you follow a link from there, LinkedIn's or Facebook's own privacy policy applies on their site.

When we might share information

Beyond the services above, we share personal information only if the law requires it, to protect our rights or the safety of others, or as part of a sale or transfer of our business, in which case this policy would continue to apply.

How long we keep it

We keep your email address while you're subscribed. When you unsubscribe, it's marked unsubscribed right away so you get no more email, and you can ask us to delete it completely.

Your choices

You can ask us to show you, correct or delete the personal information we have about you. Email contact@happyheartsoftware.com and we'll help. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under local law, and we'll honor them.

Children

This blog isn't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has subscribed, contact us and we'll delete their address.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll post the new version here and update the date at the top.
